Killing Ladakh

We all understand the impacts of global warming, pollution and various other hazards to the environment. But, sadly, we choose to stay obnoxious to them. We ignore the fact that we might be contributing to the fall of the picturesque landscapes and the dwelling population of Ladakh. Without a thought we speak up, “I am a responsible tourist and I don’t litter”. But are we really responsible if you don’t spread the awareness? We are definitely contributing to the economy of Ladakh. But is the enjoyment to see the deep blue skies and snow covered mountains hiding the fact that we are also contributing to extinction of the place?

We, as individuals, can’t tackle these problems alone. Receding glaciers, increased pollution and limiting resources are just to name a few. The little things that we can actually do, make a huge impact. Avoiding to litter is just the first step that we can take. If we can contribute this much to the Ladakh geography, we should be able to preserve the place we all dream to visit.

Ladakh is a dream destination for a lot of us. For a Motorcyclists, Ladakh is pilgrimage. Every year we see our friends posting photos and videos across social media from Ladakh, Spiti Valley and the neighbouring places. We envy them and dream about our visit to Ladakh. We start visualising our activities and bucket-list items to check off. Little do we think about our responsibilities as visitors.
